Birds of a Feather Art Exhibition: Supporting Currumbin Wildlife Hospital

As an emerging artist, an opportunity to collaborate with an established artist is amazing, and I will admit, a wee bit intimidating. So when I was approached last year to do Birds of a Feather with award winning artist Chad Stevens, my initial thoughts were ‘yes’, immediately followed by ‘yikes’. Opening night is NOW, just over one week away, and I can say we are both very excited to be delivering this exhibition that showcases our admiration for Australia’s captivating birdlife, in oils, acrylics, watercolour and charcoal.
A really special aspect of the exhibition is that it will be raising money to support Currumbin Wildlife Hospital. They are a not-for-profit organisation that treat and care for local wildlife from the Gold Coast region, as well a range of conservation and research projects.
The Rainbow Lorikeet is the highest admitted species to the hospital. In December 2024 alone, over 1,200 lorikeets were admitted to the hospital due to various reasons such as head trauma, vehicle strikes, fractures, and Lorikeet Paralysis Syndrome (LPS). Paralysis in lorikeets is concerning because the cause is currently unknown, so without research, only the symptoms can be addressed. The money raised from the Birds of a Feather exhibition will specifically be going toward LPS research.
“Every dollar makes a difference, from treating Rainbow Lorikeets
to funding groundbreaking research, your support helps protect Australia’s wildlife.” Currumbin Wildlife Hospital
